Salt Lake City, UT, August 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2005, Horizonte Instructional and Training Center located at 1234 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, was converted into Utah’s largest health clinic where individuals and families received free medical tests and screenings with dignity and privacy. Presented by the Junior League of Salt Lake City, C.A.R.E. Fair (Community Assistance and Resource Event), is now in its 13th year. This year the League, offered the services of over 300 local medical volunteers and more than 50 community agencies.
This year C.A.R.E. Fair served 4, 500 people, with over 2,000 of that total, children. The medical volunteers provided 917 physicals, 657 dental screenings, and 765 immunizations. Diabetes tests were performed on 712 clients, 748 received eye exams, and 310 were tested for hearing problems. Finally, 234 women received women’s services. Fair, which began in 1993, is a health fair assisting low-income and underinsured people to obtain free medical services and community agency information in one central location. What began as a small health fair, serving approximately 300 people, offering only a few services with 5 or 6 agencies represented, has grown into the largest health fair of its kind in Utah. The Junior League is proud to serve over 4,000 people each year, offering more than 15 medical services with over 50 agencies invited to attend.
Serving the Salt Lake community since 1931, the Junior League of Salt Lake City, Inc. is an organization of more than 600 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action, education and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League donates 20,000 to 25,000 volunteer hours and approximately $200,000 annually to address critical issues in the community.
