Peter Corroon to speak at C.A.R.E. Fair’s Opening |
C.A.R.E. Fair Offers Free Medical and Social Services, August 11, 12, & 13
Peter Corroon, Mayor of Salt Lake County, will speak at the opening of the Junior League of Salt Lake City’s C.A.R.E. Fair. The Opening Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 3:45pm on August 11, 2005 at the Horizonte Instructional and Training Center located at 1234 South Main Street, Salt Lake City. In addition to Mayor Corroon, players from the REAL Soccer Team are scheduled to appear to meet the children and sign autographs.
C.A.R.E. Fair is Utah’s largest health clinic where individuals and families receive free medical tests and screenings with dignity and privacy. Presented by the Junior League of Salt Lake City, C.A.R.E. Fair (Community Assistance and Resource Event), now in its 13th year, offers the services of over 300 local medical volunteers and more than 50 community agencies.
The Fair will be open from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th; 12-8 p.m. Friday, August 12th; and 10-5 p.m. Saturday, August 13th. Services to be offered at C.A.R.E. Fair 2005 will include childhood immunizations and physicals; women’s cancer screenings; HIV testing; eye, ear and dental exams; and diabetes testing. Clients can also take advantage of information and referrals from Women, Infants, and Children (W.I.C.), Salt Lake County Department of Workforce Services, Salt Lake Housing Authority, and more than 50 other community agencies that will be represented at the event.
C.A.R.E. Fair clients with children will receive free daycare, and vouchers for free car seats and bike helmets will be handed out to many. To assist Spanish speaking clients, and clients who speak other languages, interpreters will be available. Serving the Salt Lake community since 1931, the Junior League of Salt Lake City, Inc. is an organization of more than 600 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action, education and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League donates 20,000 to 25,000 volunteer hours and approximately $200,000 annually to address critical issues in the community.
