The Junior League of Salt Lake's C.A.R.E. Fair, which began in 1993, is a health fair assisting low-income and underinsured people to obtain free medical services and community agency information in one central location. What began as a small health fair, serving approximately 300 people, offering only a few services with 5 or 6 agencies represented, has grown into the largest health fair of its kind in Utah. The Junior League is proud to serve over 3,000 people each year, offering more than 15 medical services with over 75 agencies invited to attend.
The Health Fair will be open from 9 am to 6 pm Friday August 4th and Saturday August 5th. Services to be offered at C.A.R.E. Fair 2006 will include childhood immunizations and physicals; women's cancer screenings; HIV testing; eye, ear and dental exams; and diabetes testing. Clients can also take advantage of information and referrals from Women, Infants, and Children (W.I.C.), Salt Lake County Department of Workforce Services, Salt Lake Housing Authority, and more than 50 other community agencies that will be represented at the event. C.A.R.E. Fair clients with children will receive free daycare, and vouchers for free car seats and bike helmets will be handed out to many. To assist Spanish speaking clients, Spanish interpreters will be available. "This year as we celebrate our 75th year of service to the community, Care Fair will be an even bigger event and a good example of the type of service that the Junior League of Salt Lake City offers for our community," said Missy Greis, JLSLC President.
