C.A.R.E. Fair Offers Free Medical and Social Services, August 5, 6 & 7
Salt Lake City, UT, On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 5th, 6th, and 7th, Horizonte Instructional and
Training Center located at 1234 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, will be converted into Utah's largest health
clinic where individuals and families receive free medical tests and screenings with dignity and privacy. Sponsored by
the Junior League of Salt Lake City, C.A.R.E. Fair (Community Assistance and Resource Event), now in its 12th year,
offers the services of over 300 local medical volunteers and more than 50 community agencies.
The Junior League of Salt Lake's C.A.R.E. Fair, which began in 1993, is a health fair assisting low-income and
underinsured people to obtain free medical services and community agency information in one central location. What
began as a small health fair, serving approximately 300 people, offering only a few services with 5 or 6 agencies
represented, has grown into the largest health fair of its kind in Utah . The Junior League is proud to serve over
3,000 people each year, offering more than 15 medical services with over 75 agencies invited to attend.
Two years ago the Junior League of Salt Lake City recognized the community = s growing need s for medical services
and expanded C.A.R.E. Fair from two to three days to better serve the community. The Fair will be open from 4-8 p.m. on
Thursday, August 5 th ; 12-8 p.m. Friday, August 6 th ; and 10-5 p.m. Saturday, August 7 th . Services to be offered at
C.A.R.E. Fair 2004 will include childhood immunizations and physicals; women = s cancer screenings; HIV testing; eye,
ear and dental exams; and diabetes testing. Clients can also take advantage of information and referrals from Women,
Infants, and Children (W . I . C .), Salt Lake County Department of Workforce Services, Salt Lake Housing Authority,
and more than 50 other community agencies that will be represented at the event.
C.A.R.E. Fair clients with children will receive free daycare, and children and adults may receive free goodie bags.
Drawings for car seats and bike helmets will be held, and Arthur the Aardvark will make special appearances throughout
the Fair. Gently used children = s clothing will also be offered for a small fee. To assist Spanish speaking clients,
Spanish interpreters will be available.
Serving the Salt Lake community since 1931, the Junior League of Salt Lake City, Inc. is an organization of more
than 600 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through
the effective action, education and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League donates 20,000 to 25,000
volunteer hours and approximately $200,000 annually to address critical issues in the community.
