Kids in the Kitchen Kickoff event!
We are excited to announce the kickoff event for the Kids in the Kitchen program. April 24, 2010, celebrity chef George Stella of the Food Network will be hosting the Iron Chef Kids Challenge. The event will take place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Junior Achievement City (4th floor of the Children's Museum) at the Gateway. The event is geared toward elementary age children and their families. Next year the event will be traveling to various 5th grades around the valley.
Children will have the opportunity to make fruit kabobs with Chef Stella. He will choose the contestants and judges for the Iron Chefs Kids Challenge from the attendees. Other booths will be sponsored by local vendors and chefs. Families will be able to sign up with Utah State University for free in-home, healthy cooking lessons. The Art Institute will be providing two sous chefs for the event. The local healthy cooking community has really come together for our event.
Following the event, from 2:30 to 3:30, there will be a panel discussion on childhood obesity featuring experts. Our hope is that by teaching children how to cook we will be able to curb childhood obesity. Please join us in support of this event. It will be great fun for the whole family.
