Kathleen Robison-Huntsman Apts shopping event

JL Mini ProjectsOn a cloudy and windy Sunday morning in May, nine volunteers huddle-up at the Bed Bath and Beyond at Sugarhouse, planning their tactics on purchasing items. These items would soon be placed into two apartments at the Kathleen Robison-Huntsman Apts at the YWCA. Daniela Jex lead the determined group into the store and found the manager, an employee and a dedicated cashier ready to help them out. The volunteers sifted through piles and bargain bins, sending employees into the back room in search of the perfect items. Finally, an hour later they emerged with carts overflowing with kitchen, bath & bedroom necessities. The cashier scanned the items up one by one, making sure to include every 20% off coupon the shoppers brought in. "What service! We are definitely shopping here again,” says a volunteer.

This event was successfully staged by nine volunteers that included committee members, active, provisional, sustainers and from the community. The items will go to two families housed in the Kathleen Robison-Huntsman Apartments at the YWCA. Participants in this transitional housing can stay up to two years as they work to overcome their experiences with domestic violence, become economically self-sufficient and obtain permanent housing. These units can serve up to 36 women and 124 children.

A big thanks to those wonderful ladies that helped bring happiness to two homes.
